House Advances the Police State

Campaign for Liberty

Dear Erick,

Last week the Colorado House failed to protect you from the federal government’s growing Police State powers.

The Democrat-controlled House--with the help of Republican Cheri Gerou (Evergreen)--passed Colorado Senate Bill 13-013.

The bill gives the United States Secret Service, or “Peace Officer,” new sweeping powers to make arrests in the state--and the possible ability to hold you without charges for 72 hours.

Simply put, this bill was designed to give more authority to the Secret Service to curtail protests of federal government officials and bureaucrats who may be visiting the state.

This so-called “Peace Officer” role has been gradually expanding into states across the country and has now passed in Colorado.

Representative Jared Wright expressed the needlessness of this bill when he said on the floor:

“Colorado legislators just blindly granted more powers of arrest for ‘state felony AND misdemeanor crimes committed in an agent’s presence’ to the Secret Service working in our state – even though the Secret Service themselves told me their making an arrest of a Colorado citizen for a misdemeanor crime unrelated to their duties would violate their own policy guidelines...

...Last I checked, we were elected to represent Colorado citizens, not the federal government.”

Click here to see if your State Representative voted for this terrible bill.

Then call them at 303-866-2904 today, and let them know you will hold them accountable for their actions.

This needless and dangerous bill was being pushed on our state by outside powers and was supported by various “law-and-order” interest groups from within Colorado, so they could “lighten their caseloads.”

The fact is, this bill won't solve any problems and has the potential to open the door to widespread abuse by federal agents operating with virtual immunity in our state.

Again, contact your State Representative if they voted for SB13-013 at 303-866-2904, and let them know you’ll hold them accountable!

P.S. Last week, the Colorado General Assembly on a 35 to 29 vote handed over more power to the Secret Service to curtail protests of federal government officials and bureaucrats who may be in Colorado. This bill has already passed the State Senate.
