Stop the madness

Campaign for Liberty

Dear Erick,

In the next few weeks, I believe one of the most important votes of our political lifetimes will occur when the House and Senate each vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution.  The stage is set for a remarkable victory that could help save our economy and end the tax-spend-borrow addiction in Washington.

For years, our deficits have been soaring out of control.  President Obama has proposed a "budget" that will still allow a $1.6 trillion deficit.  And Republicans are hardly better, with their budget calling for "only" a $1.5 trillion deficit.

The threats to our prosperity and freedom aren't hard to see.  Just look all around us, every day, at the news coming from Washington.  More bailouts, trillion dollar "stimulus" schemes, huge new debt burdens for our children, higher taxes – it never ends.

You and I have a chance to help put a stop to these abuses of power.  And because the Balanced Budget legislation is a Constitutional Amendment, we don't need President Obama to sign it.  Congress alone can fix this problem.

But without your involvement, I don't think it will happen.

Please read the email below from my friend Matt Hawes, Vice President of Campaign for Liberty, so you can learn more about their battle to help pass a Balanced Budget Amendment in Congress.  Time is short, so please take action today.

For Liberty,

Campaign for Liberty
Senator Rand Paul

Dear Erick,

Our country's deficit is increasing at a rate of nearly FOUR BILLION dollars a day.

Factoring in the Big Government programs and social welfare spending already "locked in," the average American family is on the hook for nearly $800,000!

It is clear - the White House and Congress aren't going to stop unless you and I MAKE them.

There is only one way they're going to get serious – when they're FORCED to balance the budget by law through a BALANCED BUDGET AMENDMENT to the Constitution.

The American people overwhelmingly favor this.  But politicians in Washington are reluctant, even now, to stop their spending spree.

That's why it's vital you act today by filling out your Balanced Budget Petition.

One thing we know for sure - CONGRESS WILL BE VOTING on a BBA in the coming weeks.  But just getting a vote is not our goal.  Our goal is to help pass a BBA NOW or make a whole lot of statist politicians pay.

To do that, we must turn up the pressure on Congress to the highest level we can and shine the biggest possible spotlight on their actions.

You and I have seen that even with some of the changes they were scared into making after the 2010 elections, politicians don't seem to have the willpower to seriously address their spending addiction
.

Spending went up over 25% in the past 3 years through trillions of dollars in bailouts and failed stimulus spending and making sure no government program was left behind.

You see, I'd love to tell you that there's no reason to worry - that the politicians in Washington are "experts" who are working hard to "get everything under control."

I'd love to tell you the politicians understand that unless they not only stop increasing, but actually drastically CUT, spending, the entire U.S. economy could end up nose diving off a cliff.

But it isn't true.

President Obama gives an awful lot of speeches, but he has no legitimate plan to balance our budget.  In fact, all of his plans so far have increased spending dramatically.

But don't worry, House Republicans will save the country – their proposals will trim nearly EIGHT percent of the debt!

I'm sorry to have to point it out, but the politicians in both major parties are not serious about fixing our economy.

Just consider what's been on Congress' agenda:

***  A so-called "American Jobs Act" that will not only fail to end the jobs crisis but will raise taxes on millions of Americans as it adds almost $500 billion to our deficit;

***  Further bankrupting our nation, endangering the futures of our children and grandchildren, and moving us even closer to a European-style collapse by raising our nation's debt ceiling by almost $2 trillion;

***  Protecting the Federal Reserve's control over our ENTIRE economy - rewarding the culprits who caused our last economic meltdown with even more power and guaranteeing depression after depression until American citizens have been totally robbed of their wealth.

Our elected officials are simply out of control.  You see, when a mad dog is running loose, terrorizing a neighborhood, you lock him down.  You chain him up.

Well, that's exactly what you and I need to do to our government with the "chains of the Constitution," as Thomas Jefferson said.  And that's what the Balanced Budget Amendment would do.

If politicians can't run massive deficits, they'll have to actually pay the bills, stay within a budget, and set priorities - just like you and me!

If passed, the Balanced Budget Amendment would:

>>>  Require a two-thirds congressional majority to raise taxes;

>>>  Limit any increases in federal spending to no more than   population growth plus inflation;

>>>  Unlike other so-called Balanced Budget Amendments, the one supported by C4L does not allow exemptions for "military conflicts," something that would make the law nearly meaningless.

You and I both know it - this is the ONLY way we're going to stop our out-of-control federal government from taxing and spending us into collapse.

Not only that, but if we succeed, it would be a MAJOR step toward restoring American prosperity.

Sure, the last thing the politicians want is their tax-spend-and-borrow fest in Washington to come to an end.  But they work for US!

So even if they don't pass the Balanced Budget Amendment right away, if you and I can put the ENTIRE Congress on record, any politician who votes against us will have to face the consequences at the ballot box.

What GOOD excuse is there for VOTING AGAINST being fiscally responsible?  There is none.  Period.

Now, before I go any further, I want you to know forcing our tax-spend-and-borrow Congress to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment isn't going to be easy.

But if we can turn up enough heat - if we can FORCE Congress to heed the will of the American people - I'm confident we have a real chance of succeeding
.

Here's how Campaign for Liberty plans to do that - hopefully, with your help.

First, we're already busy contacting up to five million activists nationwide through mail, phones, and email to generate petitions to the U.S. Congress demanding passage of a strict Balanced Budget Amendment.

And that's just the beginning.  With your help, we'll work the blogs and write guest editorials.  We'll brief influential writers and columnists who will be sympathetic to our efforts.

We'll work the talk radio stations and grant local media interviews to further turn up the pressure on Congress.  And a few days before the vote, if we have the resources, we'd also like to run hard-hitting targeted radio, TV, and newspaper ads.

This entire program is designed to send this one, CLEAR message to Congress - any politician who votes against the Balanced Budget Amendment should look for another job.

But such a massive effort won't be easy - or cheap.  So, in addition to your completed petition, I also hope you'll agree to chip in a contribution of $10.

I know times are hard, but this fight is absolutely critical.

Can I count on you to join the fight to pass the Balanced Budget Amendment by completing the petition and chipping in a contribution of $10 to Campaign for Liberty?

In Liberty,

Campaign for Liberty

Matt Hawes
Vice President

P.S. Despite the recent elections and the continued economic crisis, the politicians in both major parties in Washington seem intent on spending us into total and complete collapse.

We must stop them!

Please fill out the petition urging your senators to vote for a strict Balanced Budget Amendment!

And, along with your completed petitions, please chip in a contribution of $10 to Campaign for Liberty right away!
