Attack of the Robosquirrels 2.0

Campaign for Liberty

Dear Erick,

The Senate is set to vote as early as tomorrow on another budget-busting, status quo-empowering bill to bury our nation even deeper in debt.

Your help is urgently needed, and here’s why.

This week, the Senate could pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government through September.

As you may know, while Senator Paul was making his stand for freedom last Wednesday, the U.S. House was busy making its own stand for Big Government – ramming through a CR that included funding to impose ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank on the American people.

Of course, it almost goes without saying these days that Congress’ funding plan doesn’t cut a penny of actual spending.

It’s obvious our legislators still have some wax to clear out of their ears when it comes to this issue.

So it’s vital you send a loud-and-clear message by calling your senators and filling out your “Real Cuts, Right Now” petition if you haven’t yet signed it.

If you've already signed your petition, please chip in $10 or $20 to help Campaign for Liberty mobilize more Americans to this fight.

The CR passed by the House of Representatives last week was a deliberate, stubborn refusal to do what’s right and curb Washington’s out-of-control spending.

In fact, reports indicate some measures in the CR shifted funding around to allow Congress to already cheat on their sequestration “diet”!

This madness must come to an end.

You and I both know there are plenty of cuts that could be made in the federal budget.

But since Washington can't seem to figure things out, here are some suggestions to offer your senators’ staff when you have them on the line:

**** First, Senators should support Senators Mike Lee and Ted Cruz’s proposed amendment to defund ObamaCare.

I guess House Republican leadership figures that with the campaign season finished, you would forget all their rhetoric about stopping the disastrous ObamaCare plan.

As mentioned above, not only did the House chicken out on ObamaCare, they voted to fund it!

Senators Lee and Cruz need our grassroots support on this amendment to correct the House’s dangerous misstep.

Furthermore, senators should look to defund implementation of the Dodd-Frank “Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act,” which deepened the government’s involvement in the financial system.

**** Second, every year, Senator Tom Coburn publishes a "Wastebook" - a thorough study of government waste at the federal level.

Last year's "Wastebook" identified $18 BILLION in savings just by eliminating wasteful and duplicative government spending!

One example is a research grant to the National Science Foundation (NSF) for $325,000 to create a robotic squirrel named "Robosquirrel." Apparently, version 2.0 will give us a "weaponized" varmint capable of pelting rattlesnakes with stones.

This highlights an important issue often ignored in Washington: the federal government has no constitutional authority to fund science and technological research!

It's not popular to say things like the NSF are unconstitutional and shouldn't exist, but when Washington, D.C. is running trillion-dollar deficits annually, we need to reexamine government's priorities.

As Coburn's report concluded, "paying $325,000 for a robot squirrel seems a bit squirrelly."

**** Third, Senator Paul's past budgets and legislative proposals show plenty of fat on the federal budget that could be trimmed.

In fact, the first bill Senator Paul introduced last Congress would have cut $500 BILLION in one year!

You should have seen the look on the political elite’s faces when he brought that up...

Even though cutting $500 BILLION would have only taken care of 1/3rd of the federal deficit!

You and I can make sure we see that look again – when the establishment gets overwhelmed by Americans demanding Real Cuts, Right Now!!

So please, if you haven’t yet done so, sign your “Real Cuts, Right Now” petition today and help turn the American people's desire for reform into action.

But no matter what, please call your senators:

Sen. Michael Bennet: (202) 224-5852
Sen. Mark Udall: (202) 224-5941

Demand they rein in Washington’s spending instead of voting for the status quo and urge them to support Senator Lee and Cruz’s amendment to defund ObamaCare.

And if you can, please consider going further by chipping in just $5 or $10 to help Campaign for Liberty reach even more people with the Real Cuts, Right Now message.

Finally, in keeping with everything that happened during Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster last week, he and Senator Cruz have a proposed amendment to prohibit using drones to target Americans on U.S. soil.

While you have your senators on the line, encourage them to support this vital amendment to codify into law a prohibition on the use of lethal drone strikes domestically against Americans.

You and I sure do have our work cut out for us.

The Senate must be where we make our stand and force Congress to take the hard votes America needs to restore fiscal discipline to Washington.

That's why it's vital you call your senators and sign your “Real Cuts, Right Now” petition to urge them to find real savings in the budget.

And if you've already signed your petition, please consider chipping in just $5 or $10 to help Campaign for Liberty recruit more Americans to push for fiscal responsibility.

Not next year, not ten years from now - RIGHT NOW!

Many legislators will hide behind the sequestration to say, “See, we tried!” when it comes to the budget.

That is simply unacceptable.

They must be reminded that the $85 billion drop-in-the-bucket cuts are not a stopping point.

It's time for Congress to wake up and end the status quo cycle of tax-and-spend.

So please take this opportunity to contact your senators today and demand REAL Cuts, Right NOW!

In Liberty,

John Tate
President

P.S. The Senate could vote as early as tomorrow on a Continuing Resolution to fund the government through September.

Reports indicate the House already passed funding tricks in the CR to cheat on their sequester diet less than a week in.

Worse yet, the bill doesn't contain any REAL cuts – and even funds the implementation of ObamaCare and Dodd-Frank!

That's why it's absolutely vital you sign your “Real Cuts, Right Now” petition if you haven’t yet done so and call your senators to urge them to embrace true fiscal discipline.

After you've signed your petition, if you're able, please chip in just $5 or $10 to help fund Campaign for Liberty's efforts to achieve Real Cuts, Right Now.
