Major Battle Tonight

Dear Erick, According to the latest reports, the Senate is expected to vote as early as tonight to reauthorize the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 (FAA) for 5 years. The statists hide behind this legislation to supposedly "justify" warrantless wiretapping of American citizens communicating with those overseas, among other things. Despite the best efforts of liberty-minded activists and even some members of Congress, no one outside of a select few know for sure how many innocent Americans have had their privacy violated or which of their overseas communications are being monitored (it could be all) due to the FAA's sweeping permissions. And as is usually the case with these kinds of bills, instead of holding an honest debate on the legislation's effects - as is promised when these bills are first passed - the politicians do their best to ram through the reauthorization votes without any challenge. But a few senators, including Rand Paul, are refusing to let the FAA pass without a fight. Senator Paul has introduced an amendment that is also set to be voted on tonight. His amendment would make it clear that Americans' communications are protected from all unwarranted searches and seizures - no matter who wants the information. You and I must give these statists exactly what they fear the most - a bruising fight in defense of our fundamental rights. It is up to us to drag their unconstitutional schemes into the light of day and mobilize more opposition against their plans. So please, take just a moment today to fight for your liberties by contacting your senators and urging them to take the following actions:     1. Merry Christmas from Campaign for Liberty

Dear Erick, What a year it’s been! As my staff and I gear up for 2013, I just wanted to express my gratitude for how much you have helped our organization accomplish. And before we all take a much needed respite from politics tomorrow, I also wanted to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas! Campaign for Liberty has truly changed the dynamic in Washington, while establishing quite a reputation for refusing to take the pressure off the statists. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and contributors, we’ve been able to do things no one imagined possible just a few short years ago. This year, our members dialed up the heat and ensured Audit the Fed passed the House of Representatives by a three-fourths majority! And while it would appear that, short of a Christmas miracle, Harry Reid will prevent Audit the Fed from receiving a vote in the Senate this Congress, we’ve made incredible progress. Before it became our top legislative priority, the Federal Reserve was shielded from any substantial public debate and scrutiny. When Audit the Fed was first reintroduced in 2009, it had only five original cosponsors. Now, hundreds of elected officials know they had better be on the right side of the American people on this issue. If Harry Reid thinks Audit the Fed will simply go away, he’s got another thing coming. All of the success we’ve experienced so far is just a warm-up for what comes next! This next Congress will present many challenges, but it will also grant us tremendous opportunities to further our cause. Embarrassing

Dear Erick, Last night, around 8:00 p.m., House Speaker John Boehner announced he would pull his “Plan B” compromise with President Obama because he didn’t have the votes. Why?  “Plan B was a turd sandwich ... without bread,” as Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) put it. I couldn’t help but chuckle when I heard that description. Congressman Massie, of course, is part of a new wave of pro-limited government leaders in Washington, D.C. who haven’t bought into the LIE that the way to shrink government is to grow it just a little less than the statists want every year... Of course, NBC News and the New York Times called the failure of Plan B “embarrassing” for Speaker Boehner. Other outlets wondered if this would mark the beginning of the end of John Boehner’s time as Speaker! Only time will tell. But Erick, one thing is sure.  The establishment’s iron grip is weakening by the day as the American people wake up to their games ... In fact, their whole concocted “fiscal cliff” crisis was a disaster from the get-go. All it was designed to do is allow representatives and senators – who would do anything to avoid cutting spending - to get off the hook for a few months. Now, they’re using the “cliff” crisis as a phony excuse to ram the status quo down our throats yet again ... That’s right.  You and I have seen this game before.  The spending cuts that are always promised “tomorrow” never come. You see, politicians never believe they are the problem. After all, according to them, our nation’s $16.3 TRILLION debt has nothing to do with their spending, their irresponsibility, or their recklessness. It’s your fault, they say. They just don’t have enough money, because the American people are so greedy, they want to keep the money they’ve rightly earned – instead of giving it to politicians to WASTE. And remember, taxes are only supposed to go up on the evil “rich!” The small business owners.  The job creators. That’s how the statists gin up support for their schemes... ... By engaging in class warfare and convincing “average” folks you don’t have a stake in the fight. Nothing could be a bigger LIE. As you know, tax hikes ALWAYS cause more economic pain, but that’s not even the worst of it. Any sane person understands just who is going to be paying the price for all the politicians’ madness and our skyrocketing debt. It’s going to be you, me, and our children and grandchildren. Future generations of Americans will pay the price with lost liberty and lost opportunity. That’s exactly why the statists in Washington, D.C. are fighting so hard for a phony “compromise.” They see any so-called “deal” to send taxes skyrocketing as total affirmation of all their spending, all their government growth, all their assaults on our liberties, and all their bailouts, borrowing, and printing money out of thin air. And should this “deal” pass, they’ll think they have a blank check to continue. It’s up to you and me to stop them.  It’s up to you and me to fight back. It’s up to you and me to continue “embarrassing” the Washington, D.C. political establishment by FORCING the politicians to recognize you and me aren’t the problem. They are. And their recklessness must come to an end. Unfortunately, Speaker Boehner refuses to even hold a vote on legislation to protect all Americans from tax increases!  As Congressman Paul stated, "Anyone familiar with my record should realize that I would prefer to vote on legislation protecting all Americans from a tax increase.  Unfortunately, House leadership has denied me that option, which is why I voted against the rule for this bill." John McCain Wants You Detained

Dear Erick, In their mad rush to get out of town before the holidays, the statists in Washington, D.C. are launching an all-out assault to rip as much liberty away from you and me as possible. With the NDAA expected to be voted on in both houses of Congress TODAY, it's absolutely vital you contact your U.S. Representative and Senators IMMEDIATELY. I've listed their names and phone numbers below for your convenience. So please call and demand they vote against the NDAA. Please note, there's not much time, so it's absolutely critical you act at once. As you may remember, just a few weeks ago, an amendment was added to the NDAA to curtail the blatantly unconstitutional indefinite detention provision. Of course, the statists said the amendment was "no big deal," and the new provisions didn't limit their power to throw American citizens in jail forever and throw away the key. But their actions tell a different story. The McCain-led Conference Committee just stripped this provision from the NDAA at the last minute. Their goal is to ensure statists can continue secretly targeting American citizens and throwing them in jail for years or even decades without so much as ever giving them a trial! Erick, this is outrageous. That's why it's so critical you contact your Representative and Senators NOW and DEMAND they vote against the McCain NDAA. Dear Erick, Obama's statist FEC and IRS are bent on shutting up those groups who dared tell the truth during the 2012 elections, so Campaign for Liberty has made the decision to retain my legal services to prepare for any upcoming assault. After the 2010 elections, the FEC launched a similar legal attack aimed at shutting up C4L. But thanks to your help, C4L was able to beat back the challenge. In order to best prepare for this possible government witch hunt this year, I have advised Campaign for Liberty to ask all of its supporters to positively assert they support the organization.
