During his speech yesterday, Barack Obama delivered probably the most arrogant statement thus far betraying his open hostility to the rule of law as it applies to his administration’s illegal war on Libya, churlishly dismissing criticism from Congress and remarking, “I don’t even have to get to the Constitutional question.”
Speaking to CNN, Congressman Ron Paul reacted to Obama’s disregard for the Constitution by labeling his claim, “A horrible statement.”
“You take an oath of office to obey the Constitution… the Constitution is very clear, you don’t go to war without a declaration,” said Paul.
But should Obama’s rampant hypocrisy really surprise us? This is the Nobel Peace Laureate who has more U.S. troops deployed than at any time under George W. Bush. This is a man who came to power promising to end war yet has involved the United States in more conflicts than Bush ever presided over.
Obama has used word games and mental gymnastics to claim he hasn’t violated the War Powers Resolution. Even as universities, apartment blocks and marketplaces are bombed, killing innocent civilians, communications are blocked, and even as top admirals now admit that the scope of the mission is all about regime change, the Obama administration still clings to the ludicrous fallacy that the bombardment of Libya is not a war.
Indeed, the White House itself characterized the goal in Libya as “installing a democratic system,” a euphemism for regime change, acknowleding that the agenda goes far beyond “protecting civilians,” as Obama claimed during his March 19 speech.
White House Counsel Bob Bauer claims that because the US and NATO has reserved its campaign to air strikes, relying on Al-Qaeda terrorists to do the dirty work on the ground (aided by US, British and French Special Forces), this means that the US is “not engaged in sustained fighting.” In other words, because the conflict is pretty much of a turkey shoot so far, with Gaddafi unable to zap fighter jets out of the sky, that turns an act of aggressive warfare into a loving exercise of peaceful slaughter.

TSA Fwd: Mess With Texas?

Dear Liberty Activist, "Don't mess with Texas!" - a phrase symbolic of the independent nature of a republic that was born fighting for independence. Unfortunately for Texans, their state leaders forgot this history and caved like the Buffalo Bills in a Super Bowl to threats from the Department of Justice. You see, Texas State Rep. David Simpson sponsored a commonsense bill to prohibit officials from groping people's privates as a condition for them to travel or enter a public building. But the bureaucrats working at the TSA and DOJ didn't like this restriction. They threatened to create what amounts to a no-fly zone over Texas after the bill sailed unanimously through the Texas State House. After a brief fight in the Senate, the bill was pulled without a vote because the necessary two thirds of Senators were not present to vote on the bill. Everyday Americans like those in Texas Campaign for Liberty refused to let their state fold, however, and they have turned up the heat to such a high level that the bill is close to returning from the dead. To ensure Texas takes its stand, these activists need nationwide backup. It's time to take action in support of not just Texas, but all states that seek to safeguard Americans' Fourth Amendment rights from the rubber-gloved goons, whose touchy-feely tactics are supposedly protected by their government agent status. The Texas Legislature was called into a special session recently, which grants them a unique opportunity to once again push this bill through and onto Gov. Rick Perry's desk. What's the one obstacle in the way of breathing new life into this bill? Governor Rick Perry. Only the Governor can add issues to be considered during a special session of the Texas State Legislature. Even though State Representative Simpson and State Senator Patrick have reintroduced their bills (HB 41 & SB 29), the Governor is the only one who can allow the legislature to restore each Texan's dignity. Governor Perry has repeatedly taken to the national scene, including venues like CPAC 2011, to talk about "standing up to Washington" and defending states' rights. Now it's time for him to show his hand. When he has the ability to prove that all that tough talk was more than just heated rhetoric, will he stop at only words? Please take a moment today to call Governor Perry at (512) 463-1782.  Demand he back up his speeches and stand up for states' rights by bringing up HB 41 & SB 29 during the special session of the Texas state legislature. Make sure he knows the whole nation is watching what happens in Texas.  If he allows the feds to walk all over him and Texas with some empty threats and misinterpretation of the "supremacy clause," then the TSA will have won a major victory. Virtually all leading Texas liberty supporters - including in the House, Senate, and the Lieutenant Governor - agree that Governor Perry should stand up to the feds, and so far he refuses to do so. Something has got to give.  If it's the states, then we're likely to be groped and scanned in airports without end.  But if it's the Feds, then we'll finally be taking a step in the right direction by refusing to surrender our dignity and human rights in the name of so-called "security." WHO is Ron Paul?;

Congressman Ron Paul of Texas enjoys a national reputation as the premier advocate for liberty in politics today. Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives: Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535″ on Capitol Hill.
Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies! He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have eighteen grandchildren.
While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. He served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary measures. He also was a key member of the Gold Commission, advocating a return to a gold standard for our currency. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending, and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.
Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th Congressional district of Texas. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee, the International Relations committee, and the Joint Economic Committee. On the Financial Services Committee, Rep. Paul serves as the vice-chairman of the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.
Dr. Paul is the author of several books, including Challenge to Liberty; The Case for Gold; and A Republic, If You Can Keep It. He has been a distinguished counselor to the Ludwig von Mises Institute, and is widely quoted by scholars and writers in the fields of monetary policy, banking, and political economy. He has received many awards and honors during his career in Congress, from organizations such as the National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, the Council for a Competitive Economy, and countless others.
Dr. Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one Congressman to comment that “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are.” Another Congresswoman added that “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”
